About Fátima

Fátima is one of the largest sanctuaries in the world, with more than 5 million vistors each year. The largest pilgrimage ocurrs on the 12 and 13th May and in October. This Modern church of the Santuary was built in 2007 it is 125 meters in diameter . A very important spot to visit is the house of the shepherd to whom the virgin Mary appeared..

After arriving at Fatima, we start the tour with a visit to the workshop where you can buy rosaries and other religious articles for the blessing at the Shrine of Fatima.

Visit the Chapel of the appearances and get the opportunity to attend mass. The pedestal on which the statue of the Virgin Mary is standing on indicates the exact place where the Virgin Mary appeared to the three young shepherds on May the 13th, June 13th, July 13th, August 13th, September 13th and October 13th of 1917.

It was inaugurated on 12 October 2007, during the commemorations closing the 90th anniversary of the appearances at the Cova da Iria. The architect responsible for the Santissima Trindade church project is the Greek Alexandros Tombazis and the engineer in charge of the project is José Mota Freitas.

Visit the home of the three young shepherds Parents house of sister Lucia, dating from the nineteenth century, was built by the brother of the mother of Lucia, José Rosa ferreira. Lucia lived here with his family until the age of 14, time that she left home to the city of Porto, on June 17th, 1921. Sister Lucia gave the house to the Shrine of Fatima on November 17, 1981.
