Tour Arrabida From Lisbon wine tasting Visite Sesimbra

Located next to the sea, between Setúbal and the fishing town of Sesimbra, Arrábida Natural Park has incomparable natural beauty, where the blue of the sea alternates with the white tones of the chalk cliffs and the depths of the green vegetation that covers the mountain range. One of the main attractions of the Park is the wealth of its indigenous vegetation. One of the rare examples of Mediterranean maquis in Portugal can be found here, and its preservation was one of the reasons which led the Arrábida zone to be considered as a genuine international scientific relic. In order to preserve these vegetation species, it is only possible to visit certain areas when accompanied by an official guide indicated by the Park’s services.

When we talk about Portuguese fortified wines, the first thing that comes to our mind is the Port Wine. But one fortified wine that is also unique and with a legion of fans around the world is the Moscatel or muscat wine. There are two main types of moscatel grapes grown in Portugal, one known locally as Moscatel de Setúbal and Moscatel Galego Branco, the type found in the Douro. The Moscatel de Setúbal is born in the historic DOP vineyards of Setúbal (demarcated for over 100 years) stretch 15km north, west and east of the port city of Setubal, taking in the limestone hills of the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park, where many of the best Muscat grapes grow. We also recommend our Évora Tour with Wine Tasting. Of course, you still have the possibility if you are thinking of visiting Porto to do a Port wine tasting on our Porto City tour or on the Douro Region Tour

In good weather it is even possible to see Lisbon around 40km to the north. It is thought that the Romans had a settlement here and then the Moors who later occupied this region built a fortress here around the 8th century. VISIT SESIMBRA AND SESIMBRA CASTLE

Sesimbra -Sesimbra, a picturesque fishing town set in a sheltered bay, was founded on the hilltop around the Moorish castle that Dom Afonso Henriques (the first King of Portugal) captured in 1165. This castle fell back into Moorish hands in 1191, and was recaptured in the reign of Dom Sancho I (13th century), who donated it to the Order of São Tiago (St. James) for defence and settlement. It was restored in the 18th century, and is now an essential place to visit for admiring a truly marvellous view of the town and the sea. Sesimbra's wealth of seafood persuaded the population to go down the hill and explore the neighbourhood, turning this town into one of the region's main fishing ports.

CABO ESPICHEL

Cabo Espichel – “Espichel” cape is in the extreme southwestern of Setúbal near Sesimbra. Cabo Espichel is at the southwestern tip of the Setúbal peninsula, in the municipality of Sesimbra. Dinosaur footprints, a lighthouse, a chapel, a sanctuary and many legends. This is Cabo Espichel, an enchanted piece of Portuguese territory literally stuck between the ‘infinite of the sky, the stability of the land and the dark depths of the sea’ *. Well, you've heard of Cabo da Roca on our Sintra tour, the most western point in Europe, haven't you? But there is another one, just as beautiful, on the other side of the Ocean that is still not as well known to travelers.
